Alice Mary Newsome

Alice Mary Newsome, 91, of Cheyenne, died August 31, 2025, in Cheyenne, WY. She was born November 30, 1933, in Omaha, Nebraska to Jennie B. and Elmer J. Ramer.

Mrs. Newsome was a junior high music teacher in the Cheyenne Public Schools for 34 years. She also taught briefly at the University of Northern Colorado and at Indiana University, while doing her graduate work.

Mrs. Newsome received her B.A. degree from C.S.C.E.; her M. Mus. Ed. from Indiana University and her Ed.D. from the University of Northern Colorado. She married Louis J. Newsome in 1970. They divorced in 1988. She had one daughter, Jennifer Olivia Sandland.

Mrs. Newsome directed the opera "Carmen" for the Cheyenne Symphony and Choral Society, and the musical "Camelot" for the Cheyenne Little Theatre. She also directed the Capital Chorale from 1988–1993. She held membership in many professional organizations, among which were Delta Kappa Gamma, Delta Omicron, Pi Lambda Theta, Kappa Delta Pi, C.C.T.A., W.E.A., and N.E.A.

Mrs. Newsome is survived by her sister, Barbara Watson; her daughter, Jennifer, and son-in-law, Nathan Sandland; and five grandchildren: Elise Santacruz (Alfonso), Joanna McBride (Alex), Adam Sandland (Katerina), Carolyn Witt (Ethan), and Benjamin Sandland. She is also survived by nephews James Watson, John Watson, nieces Jean Lock and Nancy Olsen. She was preceded in death by her parents Jennie and Elmer Ramer.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday September 4 from 3p.m. to 5p.m. at Schrader Funeral Home; 2222 Russell Avenue. Services will be at the First Presbyterian Church; 220 W. 22nd Street on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.; with a reception to follow. Interment will be privately held at Beth El Cemetery.
