IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Aubrey Lind
Mumpower
July 28, 1949 – February 24, 2026
Aubrey Lind Mumpower, a respected figure in the broadcasting industry, passed away peacefully at his home in Chicago on February 24, 2026. Born on July 28, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, Aubrey embarked on a journey that would shape both his life and the lives of many he encountered along the way.
Aubrey graduated from Cheyenne Central High School before furthering his education at the Columbia School of Broadcasting in Chicago. He began his career in broadcasting at KFBC TV in Cheyenne, Wyoming, before making the bold decision to leave home at the age of 18 and hitchhike to Chicago. This leap of faith marked the beginning of a lengthy and successful career in one of America’s vibrant broadcasting cities. He worked at WCIU TV and later at WGN Radio, where he was proud to be part of the #1 rated AM radio station in the country.
Throughout his career, Aubrey was known not just for his professional achievements but also for his generous spirit. He was a cat person who found joy in caring for his feline companions. His kindness and willingness to offer help and encouragement made a profound impact on his co-workers and friends, many of whom benefitted from his guidance as they entered the broadcasting business.
Aubrey's interests extended beyond the airwaves; he dedicated time to making a recording studio in his apartment, showcasing his passion for audio and production. A cherished memory shared by his friends includes an amusing episode involving a Triumph he purchased when first settling in Chicago. Despite the car’s transmission troubles—after which he sought assistance for repairs—he held onto it tightly, demonstrating his characteristic charm and humor.
Aubrey leaves behind his brother, Vaughan Mumpower, and his half-sister on his mother’s side, Marcia Pouncy, who will remember him for the warmth he brought into their lives. He is reunited in spirit with his grandfather, Ernest Mumpower I; his father, Ernest Mumpower Jr.; and his mother, Martha Brummond, who have preceded him in death.
As we reflect on Aubrey’s life, we honor his passion for broadcasting, his love for animals, and the countless lives he touched. His legacy will endure in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
