Barbara S. Keehner

Barbara S. Keehner, affectionately known as Barb, was born on September 11, 1941, in Decatur, Illinois. She began her journey in this world surrounded by the warmth of her family, and throughout her life, she became the heart of her own family unit.

A proud graduate of Pekin High School, Barb dedicated many years of her professional life to WXCL Radio in Peoria, Illinois, where she served as the traffic manager. She later transitioned to Nyman’s Market in Creve Coeur, Illinois, holding various positions there. Her professional endeavors reflected her nurturing nature and her knack for connecting with others.

Barb's true joy, however, came from the time spent with her family. She was known for making her famous sweet potato dish every Thanksgiving and Christmas, a beloved tradition that brought everyone together. The holidays were always vibrant in her presence, filled with laughter as they engaged in rousing games of cards that would echo through the home, a testament to her outgoing personality and her love for making memories.

Her infectious sense of humor and warmth drew people to her, making her a cherished friend to many. Barb had a wonderful ability to meet new people and learn new things, and she embraced those experiences with open arms. Her hobbies included reading, enjoying movies, dining out, and her wide network of dear girlfriends.

Barb’s devotion to her family was unwavering. She was immensely proud of her daughter, Bethany Haptas, and all of her accomplishments. Her support extended to her husband’s enterprises, showcasing her commitment and love. She left a legacy of caring and compassion, beautifully reflected in her nurturing spirit.

In her later years, Barb faced health challenges, having been ill for some time before succumbing to double pneumonia on November 22, 2025, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She joins her late husband, Dennis Keehner, and her parents, George Phillips and Mary Haycraft Phillips Adams, as well as her stepfather, Jack Adams, her brother, Alan Phillips, her nephew, Matthew Nickel, his wife, Sharon Nickel, and her great niece, Ashley.

Barb is survived by her loving daughter, Bethany Haptas; her sister, Terry Munday; her brother-in-law, Steve Munday; her sister-in-law, Arlene Nickel; her brother-in-law, Ronald Nickel; her nieces, Amber and Amy Munday; and her great nephew, Bailey Nickel.

Though her journey has come to an end, the joyous memories, laughter, and love she shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Barb’s spirit will continue to shine brightly through the lives of her family and friends, as they hold dear the countless moments shared in her delightful presence.
