Obituary

Bev’s gentle spirit and steadfast nature were rooted in a childhood spent in the heart of Wyoming.

Beverly Joan Ambrose, lovingly known as Bev, passed away on July 2, 2026, in her hometown of Cheyenne, Wyoming, at the age of 88. Born on December 7, 1937, also in Cheyenne, Bev’s life was a tapestry of devotion, warmth, and service to her family, friends, and community.

Bev’s gentle spirit and steadfast nature were rooted in a childhood spent in the heart of Wyoming. She graduated with the Cheyenne High School Class of 1956 before following her passion for helping and healing others. At the University of Wyoming School of Nursing, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree, setting her on a path that would define her as a true caregiver at heart—an identity she wore proudly and selflessly each day of her life.

Her distinguished career began as a registered nurse, which then carried her into the skies as a Flight Nurse with the Wyoming National Guard. Bev also worked as a school nurse and public health nurse before changing paths; becoming the owner of Ambrose’s Maternity Wear & Needlecraft. She later became Hospital Coordinator at Rapid City Regional Hospital, forever remembered for her leadership and ability to bring calm in the most challenging moments.

Beverly was a strong-willed and intelligent woman whose kindness and compassion touched everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Her warmth radiated at home and within her community. Beverley’s vibrant inner life shone through her love for music: singing, playing handbells, and playing the baritone brought her deep joy, as did the friendships she found around the bridge table and the welcoming embrace of her church family.

Beverly was a strong-willed and intelligent woman whose kindness and compassion touched everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.

A proud, lifelong Wyoming Cowboy Fan, Bev’s enthusiasm for her home state was contagious. She devoted herself to empowering women through the Zonta Club of Cheyenne, where her efforts were recognized as she was named Wyoming Zontian of the Year. These accomplishments stood as a testament to her enduring commitment to making life better for others, especially women seeking strength and opportunity.

Those who knew Bev understood her as compassionate, well-traveled, caring, and always ready with a kind word or helping hand. Family was at the center of her world, and it is they who now cherish her memory most deeply. Beverly is survived by her children Sean and Gwen Ambrose, who remain forever grateful for her love and guidance, and Nancy McCleave, her sister-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle & Ted McCleave; her brother and sister-in-law Allen & Jennalee McCleave; her former husband Robert Ambrose; and her cherished friend Bunny Tyler.

Friends, family, and all whose lives were moved by Beverly’s grace and compassion are invited to celebrate her remarkable life at a funeral service on July 11, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 108 East 18th Street, Cheyenne, WY 82001. There will be a viewing before the service at 9:30. Afterwards, all are welcome to a reception at First United Methodist Church from where stories, laughter, and memories can be shared in her honor.

Bev leaves behind a legacy of heartfelt compassion, tireless service, and enduring love. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering strength will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew her. Her memory—full of kindness, wisdom, and joy—will continue to inspire the community she so dearly loved.
