Bruce Stahle Asay, a long-time resident of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away on March 8, 2026. Born on December 29, 1949, in Lovell, Wyoming, to Harris and Mildred Asay, Bruce lived a life defined by hard work, dedication to his family, his country, his religion, and the law.

Bruce earned his bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and Sociology from Brigham Young University. It was there he met his wife Diane. He served in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard. Upon his retirement he had achieved the rank of Brigadier General, a testament to his exceptional leadership and commitment to duty.

In 1979, Bruce earned his law degree from the University of Wyoming and began a distinguished career practicing law. In 1996, he founded his own law firm, Associated Legal Group and built a successful practice. Bruce was deeply invested in the future of Wyoming. In 2004, he ran for U.S. Congress, a campaign he cherished for the opportunity it gave him to travel across the state and connect with others. He also taught utilities law at the University of Wyoming.

Bruce was a devoted family man. He and Diane were married on June 29, 1974. Together they built a beautiful legacy they shared with their six children.

Bruce had a love of adventure and the outdoors. He climbed the highest point in every state, including Hawaii and Alaska. He also climbed more than 20 peaks in Colorado higher than 14,000 ft. often with one of his children or grandchildren. In 2012 he hiked Mt. Fuji in Japan.

He ran four marathons, including St. George (twice), New York and Logan, UT, all after turning 55. He ran multiple half marathons and 5ks with his kids and grandkids often to support causes they were involved in. He was an avid Central High, University of Wyoming, and BYU sports fan. Bruce spent countless hours in the stands cheering on family and friends, occasionally offering suggestions to the referees.

Bruce was generous with his time and talents. He refused to slow down at his law practice, not only because he loved the work, but also because he felt there were so many people who needed his help. His service to others wasn’t limited to clients, but extended to anyone who asked for his help.

Throughout his life he was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints. He served a mission for the church in Melbourne Australia and held numerous church positions.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Diane; his children, Brigham (Kim), Emily, Chris, Meredith (Ben), Greg (Tricia), and Erin (Austin) and his grandchildren: Zachary (Caroline), Madeline, Samuel, Jared, Alena, Natalie, Annie, Benjamin, Alex, Charlotte, Heston, Edward, Eloise and his great-granddaughter Gwendolyn.

His children will hike the Incan Trail to Machu Pichu in October in his honor fully completing his bucket list.

Services will be held on Tuesday, March 17th, 2026 at 11:30am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 7721 Badger Rd., Cheyenne, Wyoming. A internment will follow at 1:00pm, at Mountain View Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions in Bruce’s name may be made to the Wyoming Hunger Initiative.
