In Loving Memory of Cheddar
Cheddar came into my life completely by accident, or perhaps exactly as he was meant to. At just five weeks old, he was the tiny orange runt from a hoarding case, sick, underweight, and full of worms. A chance conversation while I was working at a veterinary clinic led him to me, and the moment I looked into his little face, I knew I couldn't say no.
For the next 16 years, Cheddar was so much more than a cat. He was my constant companion, my shadow, my comfort, and my best friend. Every morning he greeted me with purrs, every meal was shared from my lap, and every difficult day was made better by his presence. He had a gift for knowing exactly when I needed him. Through anxiety, sadness, joy, and celebration, his steady purr and unconditional love never failed me.
Cheddar loved being held, snuggled, and adored, and he returned that love tenfold. Even as age and arthritis slowed him down, he still made his way to greet me at the door with his sweet "pigeon noises" and loving purrs.
After 16 beautiful years together, I held my precious boy in my arms as he took his final breath. My heart is broken, but I am endlessly grateful for every moment we shared. One of the greatest gifts God ever gave me was that little orange runt who chose me to be his person.
Cheddar was deeply loved, and he will be profoundly missed. The grief is immense because the love was immense. Until we meet again, my sweet Cheddar baby. ❤️🐾
