Obituary

Our deeply loved Dan passed away May 30, 2026, after a 6-week battle with pancreatic cancer. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, George and Esther Christopulos, and sister Elaine Jacobs.

Dan lived a life of service to the Lord. At six years old, when asked at school, what he wanted to be when he grew up, he said – a priest. He was holding church services in his family’s garage shortly thereafter. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, and sports of all kinds, professional, college, and those of his grandchildren. His Alma Mater, the University of Wyoming held a special place in his heart where he starred as an All-Conference place kicker in football and still holds the UW field goal distance record as a kicker of 62 yards. Dan received a Master of Divinity from Holy Cross Seminary in Brookline MA. After his first parish assignment at the Annunciation Cathedral in Houston, TX, he became the first official American Orthodox missionary sent out by the Greek Orthodox Church to Kenya, Africa, which ushered in the beginning of the American Pan-Orthodox agency, OCMC (Orthodox Christian Mission Center). His life of service continued in parish ministry and then with International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC), the American Pan-Orthodox philanthropic and relief agency assisting people in America and throughout the world. He ended his career by going full circle. Dan’s final area of service was with the (OCMC) Orthodox Christian Mission Center. He began his career spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and ended his career committed to the same goal.

For the last 15 or so years, Dan had been a Chaplain for the Edina Police Department. He was called upon for notifications of death or other challenging situations where spiritual support was needed. He came to love the members of that department and often attended their roll calls or visited just to see the officers and be there for their needs.

As a son, brother, husband, father, stepfather, Papou (grandfather), mentor, and friend, he was always offering love, support, and his perennial “silliness "that the grandchildren loved so much. Words do not do justice to the void his absence leaves in our hearts. But we know Dan is in the arms of our loving Lord who he served all his life and we will see him again.

He leaves behind his wife of 27 years, Patty, his daughters Jordan Smith (husband Matt), grandson Greysen, daughter Zoe Olson (husband Taylor), children Evy & Easton. Stepchildren Valerie Comprelli (husband Kevin), grandchildren Juliana, Connor, and Tommy. Stepson David Boosalis (wife Kristine) grandchildren Ava and Kate, sister Adrianne Johansen (Dave of blessed memory), brother Fr. Lou (Marsha) Christopulos, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Services for Dan are as follows: 5-7pm Monday, June 8, viewing with a Trisagion Prayer Service at 7pm.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 9 at 10:30 am followed by internment at Lakewood Cemetery and a Meal of Blessings (Makaria). Services and meal are at St Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church, 3450 Irving Ave So Minneapolis, MN 55408.

In Lieu of flowers please consider donations to OCMC (Orthodox Christian Mission Center), IOCC (International Orthodox Christian Charities), or St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church here in Minneapolis.

Christ is Risen and so is our beloved Dan.
