Darleen (Hazlitt) Allen, born on October 2, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at Granite Rehabilitation and Wellness in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She enjoyed a fulfilling career, serving as the head of food service for the Lorenzo School District in Nebraska before moving to Cody, Wyoming, where she shared her passion for Native American jewelry as a salesperson in numerous local shops throughout the years.
Darleen was known for her kind and caring nature, complemented by an outgoing personality that allowed her to connect with just about everyone she met. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends, with whom she created countless cherished memories.
Throughout her life, Darleen took great pride in her community involvement. She was a dedicated member of the Rebekah Assembly of the IOOF, serving in various office holder positions. She also contributed her time and energy to the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW Auxiliary, reflecting her commitment to service and camaraderie.
Darleen is survived by her son, Ken (Virginia) Hazlitt of Sterling, Colorado, and Dean (Lynette) Hazlitt of Cody, Wyoming. She was a proud grandmother to three grandsons and one granddaughter, and she delighted in her role as a great-grandmother to two great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her step-daughter Nora (Gary) Lyons of Cheyenne, Wyoming, step-son Bill (Helen) Allen of Cody, Wyoming, and step-daughter Missy Schofield of Montana.
Darleen was preceded in death by her father, Walter Barr; mother, Viola May Christler; brother, Raymond Barr; and her husbands, Donald Hazlitt and Jack Allen. She also mourned the loss of her son, James Hazlitt, and step-son Jay Allen.
Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Darleen's vibrant spirit and unwavering commitment to family and community will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
