Obituary

Dorothy Anna Eggleston, known simply and affectionately as Anna, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, in her beloved hometown of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Born on November 18, 1940, Anna’s life was one marked by kindness, joy, and a steadfast dedication to those she loved.

Though she carried the name Dorothy as a birthright, Anna preferred to be called by her middle name, a gentle reminder of her mother when mistakenly called Dorathy by others. This small but telling detail spoke volumes about her humor and her respect for family. She was a truly good soul, a woman whose warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Anna’s journey in life was as vibrant as it was grounded. She spent over twenty years working as a butcher and meat cutter, a career path she embraced with pride and a surprising fondness. While she ventured into higher education at Laramie County Community College and earned an Associate’s Degree, she often expressed that school was not her favorite place—life itself was her truest classroom.

Anna had a zest for life that carried her across all 50 states, a testament to her love of travel. Alongside her husband Joe, she enjoyed bus trips organized for seniors, delighting especially in these adventures. Her hobbies reflected her zest for community and creativity—from the spirited turns of square dancing to the quiet artistry of quilting. Despite being firmly rooted in Cheyenne, her spirit roamed freely and widely.

Her greatest pride and joy were her children, a role she cherished above all. She would often say that if she didn’t get anything else right in life, she got being a mother right. Anna’s family was a cornerstone of her existence, surrounded by the love of her husband Joseph LeRoy Eggleston; her children David Allen (and his wife Virginia), Amber Eggleston (and her husband Joey), Michael Eggleston ( and his wife Jillian), and daughter Barbara Varice; her sister Georgia Martin; her daughter in law, Brenda Allen; and her cherished grandchildren Alicia, Nathanial, Matthew, Christopher, Candace, Daniel, Ashton, Elliott, Felix, and Sarah. Her lineage continues to grow through numerous great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all touched by her enduring legacy.

Anna’s journey was not without its challenges. Her health declined over the last six years, lovingly tended to by Joe, who stood faithfully by her side. On one of the first truly sunny days of the season, when the world seemed to shimmer with the promise of summer, Anna quietly slipped away—a peaceful farewell on a beautiful day, surrounded by the gentle warmth she so deeply loved.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Elmer and Dorothy Day, her son Michael Allen, and her brother Elmer Day Jr. Though she has left this world, the imprint of Anna’s kindness, her joy, and her unwavering goodness will remain deeply etched in the hearts of all who knew her.

Dorothy Anna Eggelston’s life was a radiant example of love lived simply and well. She was a treasure to her family, her community, and all who had the pleasure to share even a small part of her journey. In her passing, we remember not only the woman who was "just good," but also the joyful spirit who danced through life with grace and warmth, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
