In Loving Memory of Emilio R. Gomez III
Emilio R. Gomez III, lovingly known as “Juju,” passed away on July 15, 2025 after a sudden and unexpected illness. His departure has left a deep and quiet ache in the hearts of those who loved him.
Born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Emilio had a wild and beautiful spirit. After graduating high school, he chased his dreams to the East Coast, where he became a professional jockey and spent over 30 years doing what he loved—riding horses and living freely. His career took him around the world, but it was the rhythm of the racetrack and the grace of the horse that grounded him.
Eventually, he returned to Wyoming after living most of his adult life in Florida, and discovered a new passion: working on a golf course and learning the game of golf, which brought him peace in a different way. In June of this year, Emilio moved to Colorado to live with his sister Debra. Not long after, he fell ill, which took him from us far too soon.
Emilio’s faith was deep and personal. He knew his prayers by heart and carried his love for God close. We find comfort in imagining his final ride—watched by horses on his way from hospice to the funeral home—as a quiet, sacred farewell from the creatures he loved most.
He is survived by his son; Emilio R. Wilson IV (Jill Wilson), and his grandchildren, Zyana Wilson and Emilio R. Wilson V. His siblings; brother Tommy Gomez (Debra Pino Gomez), sister Debra Gomez (Steve Tafoya), and sister Justina Gomez. He is also remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Emilio was preceded in death by his parents; Emilio R. Gomez Jr. and Viola C. Gomez (Mork), his brother Michael A. Gomez, his paternal grandparents, Emilio R. Gomez Sr. and Justina R. Gomez, and his maternal grandparents, Leandro Gonzalez and Florentina Gonzales.
