Francis Lane Noyes of Cheyenne died June 10, 2010. He was born January 6, 1914 to Henry Landis and Lorena Frances Noyes in Burns, WY spending his childhood and school days in Burns. He married Jean Elizabeth True of Carpenter WY on October 10, 1936 in Greeley, CO they made their first home in Burns; in 1940 he moved his family to their new home at 216 E. 5th Street in Cheyenne. He worked during WWII at the Wyatt Manufacturing Plant, later at the Ideal Aero-Smith Manufacturing and retired his working career as an accountant for the Wyoming Highway Department. He was a member and deacon of the Presbyterian Church for many years. Francis was an avid fisherman, especially when the Noyes and/or True families would spend long weekends fishing in the mountains. This was fodder for stories like the one that got away because a bear got between him and the stream. Francis was the story teller’s story teller; he was the best. He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Hayes of Shoreline WA and Marilyn Gourley of Pomerene, AZ; a brother, John F. Noyes of Cheyenne, seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and two special brothers-in-law Max and Lester True. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; his parents and two brothers, Colonel L. and William M. Noyes. He has not left us…he’s just gone fishing.
