Frank Tallmire Wright

But the good news is…” is how Frank Tallmire Wright, born October 20, 1938, loved to frame things as he encountered the twists and turns of life. On Thursday, September 3, 2026, Frank met his last turn, when he passed away in his home in Cheyenne, Wyoming. While we will miss him, we know that for him the good news is that he has met his maker and will see his dear Sherry again.

Born in Rock Springs, Wyoming, in 1938 to Earl and Margaret Wright, Frank, his parents and his brother Bill lived in Farson until Frank was 6, when they moved to Cheyenne. Frank attended St Mary’s High School, where he played football, graduating in 1956. Despite changing his major several times, he graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1960. After a period in graduate school, Frank served in the Air National Guard. At the urging of friends, he moved to Denver, Colorado, where he met his first wife, Pamela Lindholm. Although they ultimately divorced, they had two children, and Frank was a devoted father.

Frank joined Security Life of Denver in November, 1964. It was reported that for the first four years, he “held a variety of positions (he moved so fast that for a while nobody knew where his desk was located).” In 1968 he became the Director of Marketing Services in the agency department, and he spent the rest of his career as a marketing executive at Security Life, ending as a Vice President. His fondest professional experience was his many years working with the insurance agency pros who were part of M Financial Group, a network of independent life insurance firms focused on the needs of high net worth, successful people, families, and organizations. He greatly enjoyed the travel that his career afforded and developed an appreciation for many US cities, including Philadelphia and Portland, Oregon, especially for their food.

Upon his retirement, Frank moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, and then to Portsmouth, Virginia, where he met and married Sherry Coxwell Powell in 2010. Thus was born “Granfrank,” the moniker bestowed upon him by Sherry’s many grandchildren. Following Sherry’s death in 2024, Frank returned to his childhood home town of Cheyenne. As part of this move, he discovered train travel, and at the time of his passing he was still planning his future rail trips, including an upcoming visit to Virginia, and another to Portland, Oregon. In Cheyenne, he enjoyed reconnecting with old friends, being closer to his children, eating at Taco John’s, and feeling at home again in the Rockies.

Frank’s primary passion was sports. An avid golfer, Frank took many road trips in his treasured Porsche 914 to various golf courses in the Western US. His favorite course was the private Old Baldy Club near Saratoga, Wyoming, where the M Group held an annual “Golden Bull” retreat. He loved golf so much that he and some of his buddies invented the “Urban Golf Association,” (UGA) an informal group whose purpose was, his children suspect, a cover for carousing. As season ticket holder 328, Frank was an “OG” fan of the Denver Broncos, and he delighted in telling stories about the raucous behavior he witnessed in the south stands. He loved listening to Bob Martin and Larry Zimmer, and later Dave Logan on KOA radio; ESPN Sports Center was his nightly newscast for many years. His musical preference sat firmly in the country lane. Midway (1976) was the only movie he thought was worth watching. He loved reading, and he was pleased to join a book club when he moved to Cheyenne, where he read and relished titles ranging from Anita Diamant’s The Red Tent to C.J. Box’s Open Season. In 2001, he became a born-again Christian. He was a member of Christ’s Fellowship Church in Portsmouth, Virginia until his death.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, William Earl Sr and Margaret Wright; his brother, William Earl Wright Jr; and his wife, Sherry Coxwell Powell. He is survived by his children: Stuart Wright, Stuart’s wife Annette Wright and grandson Jake; Lisa Wright, her husband Tim Tischler and grandsons Tyson and Darwin Tischler; and by Sherry’s son Larry Thompson, wife Kristian, and their children Dylan, Brent, and Aubrey; and his former wife, Pamela Lindholm-Levy.
