Greta Mae Ingersoll

September 19, 1938 — July 20, 2025

Cheyenne, WY

Greta Mae Ingersoll (Allen) passed away in Cheyenne, WY, Sunday, July 20, 2025. She passed due to severe heart complications. She was born on September 19, 1938, in Woodhull, NY.

Greta was born to Oscar and Isabel Allen and was the eighth of thirteen siblings. Oscar passed away in 1948 and in 1955 Isabel remarried Louis Bouton.

She is survived by her sons Thomas Allen Johnson and wife Helen Johnson; Matthew Rex Johnson and wife Carol Johnson; grandchildren Jessica Lindblom (Shawn), Jeremy Johnson (Jacquelyn) and Tabetha Wolf; great-grandchildren Christopher and Madison Lindblom, Phisher and Paisley Johnson; sisters Arloween Dennis, Elma Jacobus, and Vicki Krisher; brothers Donald “Sonny” Allen, Jack Allen, Phillip Allen, and Kenneth Allen.

She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar Allen and Isabel Bouton; siblings Charles Allen, William Allen, Floris “Toot” Townsend, Dorothy Bouton, Arlene Marlatt, and Joseph Allen; husband Elwyn Ingersol and granddaughter Megan Johnson.

Greta graduated from Jasper Central School in 1956. She married Harry Johnson on January 1, 1957, and welcomed sons Thomas on January 5, 1958, and Matthew on May 23, 1962. During their marriage, Harry’s career took the family to upstate New York, France, Holland, Wyoming, Montana, Minnesota and California and finally back to Wyoming. Greta was a homemaker during this time. After the boys had grown and moved, she became an employee of the IRS. She eventually moved to Anchorage, AK, for four years, and then she had the sudden urge to move back to upstate New York to be with her family and friends. While in New York, she married Elwyn Ingersol in 2004. After the passing of her mother (2003) and Elwyn (2009), she made a couple more moves before settling back in Cheyenne. Here she remained, although the wandering spirit in her always wanted to move and explore places that had stirred an emotional interest.

Greta enjoyed eating out and hosting dinners with family and friends. She especially enjoyed her Thursday night dinner group. She enjoyed baking pies for family events and special occasions. She also cherished her time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was passionate about her politics and enjoyed political banter. She will be truly missed.

Per Greta’s request, there will be no services; her ashes will be scattered at a later date.
