James (Jim) Lee Greene, age 65, of Cheyenne, WY, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, surrounded by his family. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and friend to so many.

Jim lived a life overflowing with love, laughter, and adventure. Born in Greybull, WY on May 5, 1961, Jim discovered early on that the world was meant to be explored, and life was meant to be fully embraced. He brought this infectious enthusiasm to everything he did-from the classroom where he taught middle school and high school science courses for thirty years in Froid, MT, Lovell and Cheyenne, WY, educating students in nine foreign countries, fellowships and guest lectures at prestigious universities, and to the dinner table where his stories and laughter made every meal memorable.

As a teacher, Jim didn’t just educate-he inspired. His students knew him as someone who made learning fun, believed in them, and who brought science to life. Former students often spoke of their fond memories in his classroom. His dedication to education shaped countless young lives, and his legacy lives in every person he taught.

His passion for travel took him to four continents. Whether he was doing research on lionfish or standing before ancient ruins, he approached each journey with wonder and curiosity. He collected not souvenirs, but stories-and he shared them generously, transporting everyone around him to far-off places.

Above all, Jim was devoted to his family. He married the love of his life, De Anna, on May 23, 1980, and together they built a life rich in joy, adventure, and love. He was the kind of husband and father who gave his full support, never missing recitals, games, or meets. He told terrible jokes and was full of isms that everyone loved. His children and grandchildren knew they could always count on him for support, wisdom, laughter and adventure.

Jim was always ready with encouragement. He had a gift for making people feel seen and valued. His warmth was genuine, his laughter contagious, and his care for others boundless.

He is survived by his beloved wife, De Anna; his children, Trenton, Shadd, and Wendy; his grandchildren Jadyn, Reese, Cici, Alden, and Svea; brother Steve; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Donna, and brother Mike.

Those who knew Jim counted themselves lucky. He was a life fully lived-a life of purpose, connection, and joy. And if you never had the chance to meet him, well, we’re sorry for your loss. You missed out on knowing someone truly special.

Services are planned for August 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 400 US Hwy 20 South, Basin, WY with a viewing one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to St. Judes, Jim’s favorite non-profit, taking a moment to call someone you love, take a trip you’ve been postponing, or do something kind for a stranger-all things Jim would have done.
