Obituary

James "Jim" LeRoy Miller, 80, passed away peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by family on July 16, 2026. Jim was born on July 5, 1946, to Harry Warren Miller and Alice Lucille Miller.

A lifelong resident of the Albin/Pine Bluffs area, Jim graduated from Albin High School in 1964 and spent his entire life farming and ranching on the family farm. Farming was more than a livelihood for Jim; it was a way of life that he embraced with dedication, resilience, and pride. Through droughts, storms, long days, and countless challenges, he remained steadfast in his love for the land and the farming community.

Jim's greatest joy, however, was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love knew no distance. Whether it meant traveling a few miles or hundreds of miles, Jim could always be counted on to be in the stands cheering on a grandchild or an “adopted” grandchild at a sporting event or supporting them at a livestock show. His presence, encouragement, and unwavering support created lasting memories for those he loved.

Jim also cherished time spent with family and friends around a card table. The games, stories, laughter, and conversations shared during those special gatherings brought him tremendous happiness and created traditions that will be remembered for generations.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Miller and Lucille Miller; and his sisters, Rhonda Wiggam and Bonnie Maki, and infant brother William Miller.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Miller; daughters Robin Miller and Jody (Steve) Gilliland; son Justin (Brandi) Miller; stepdaughters Mandy (John Estes), Christine Lien, and Colette (Ryan) Lee; stepsons Christopher (Veronica) Lein and Jeremy (Shelly) Lien.; 13 beloved grandchildren whom he adored; and two great-grandchildren who became his newest pride and joy. He also leaves behind numerous extended family members and friends who will deeply miss his wisdom, humor, and steadfast love. He also leaves behind a sister, Lonna Maylone.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 30, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a burial to follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

A service to honor and celebrate Jim's life will be held Friday, July 31, at the Albin Community Center beginning at 10:30 am and will be followed by a reception.

Though Jim's boots have taken their final walk across the family farm, the values he lived by, hard work, loyalty, faith, and love of family, will continue to guide those who knew and loved him.
