James Edwin Taylor, a devoted father, grandfather, craftsman, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Born on April 7, 1933 in Greeley CO, James spent much of his life in northern Colorado and southeast Wyoming. He ran a successful TV and radio repair shop, Taylor’s Place, in Nunn, Colorado during the 1960s and 70s, serving his community with skill and integrity. Beyond his business, James worked the land and seasons—operating loaders during sugar beet harvests and supporting wheat farming in Nunn.
James was also a gifted and passionate maker. His creativity came to life through Native American courting flutes, intricately carved woodwork, peace pipes, handmade candles, chess sets, and beautiful lapidary stone jewelry. He shared his talents generously and crafted with care, leaving behind a legacy of artistry and craftsmanship. He never taught you how to do something—he taught you how to learn how to do something. His quiet wisdom and encouragement sparked curiosity in those around him.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, James served during the Korean War with honor.
He is survived by his son, Jim Taylor, and daughter-in-law Paula of Burns, WY; grandson James Taylor and granddaughter-in-law Megan Turner; granddaughter Daniek Long and grandson-in-law Andrew Long; and great-great-granddaughter Emryn Long, all of Cheyenne, WY. He is also survived by his sister Joyce Taylor of Nunn, CO, and brother Dean Taylor of Richmond, VA.
James was preceded in death by his wives, Doris and Bunny, parents, James and Mable Taylor of Nunn, CO; his sister June Renfro of Rifle, CO; and his brother Ray Taylor of Santa Maria, CA.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 9th, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Schrader Funeral Home, 2222 Russell Ave, Cheyenne, WY, with a reception to follow.
James will be remembered for his creativity, quiet strength, and enduring love for family and tradition.
