JoAnn Freeman

January 24, 1936 — May 15, 2023

JoAnn Freeman left this world on May 15 2023 in Cheyenne. She was born January 24 1936 in Texas.

She grew up in the Houston area, and when she was 10 she and a friend would ride the bus to watch a movie. She graduated early from high school and moved to Boulder Co. to go to college, where she met Wayne Freeman and they got married soon after he joined the Air Force. And they were off. As an Air Force wife they moved to many states including Mississippi, California and Colorado. Then a few years in Japan. Robert was born in Denver Co. Janet was born at Edwards Air Force base. James was born in Cheyenne.

After Japan we landed in Cheyenne in the early 60s. She was a cub scout den mother. She always had hot chocolate for all the kids after sledding. She was the cool mom in the neighborhood.

She became a single mother in the 70s. She overcame many obstacles and was able to get through everything with grace and courage.

She had a few different jobs before getting a job with the state as a custodian. She liked the hours, not being a morning person.

She retired from the state at 70 and enjoyed a pretty laid back retirement. Her favorite thing ever was to have a new quilt project. She made many masterpieces.  She was an excellent baker, we always enjoyed when she baked. She was a lifelong reader and never stopped learning. She loved books about space, Lewis and Clark, Egypt and a good mystery novel. She loved music and her 45s. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed British shows. She would laugh at the Red Green show until she had tears in her eyes. When she wasn't doing all of the above, she would be doing word search puzzles in red ink.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Iris Williams and a great grandson Decland.

She is survived by a brother Robert Williams and Marguerite of Pearland Tx. Son Robert Freeman and Pat of New Mexico. Daughter Janet Opp and Steve of Cheyenne. Son James Freeman and Ann of Denver. Grandchildren Darcy Kitts, Mallorie Miller, Victor Freeman. Nieces and great grandchildren.
