Obituary

John Carol Meadows, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on July 1, 2026, with his beloved wife, JoLynn Broome Meadows, by his side. He was 67 years old.

John was born on January 23, 1959, and grew up in Victoria, Texas. He graduated from Victoria High School before earning his bachelor's degree from the University of Houston-Victoria and his master's degree from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

John dedicated much of his career to education, where he found his greatest purpose as a coach. While he wore many hats throughout his life, coaching was where his heart truly shined. He believed in encouraging others, building confidence, and teaching lessons that extended far beyond the game. The impact he had on students and athletes will be remembered by many for years to come.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, John could talk sports with just about anyone. He was, first and foremost, a devoted Texas Longhorns fan, faithfully cheering on the burnt orange through every season. Whether discussing the latest game, sharing an obscure sports statistic, or swapping stories, he had an incredible ability to connect with people. He was known for his wealth of random facts, his quick wit, and his gift for striking up conversations that often turned strangers into lifelong friends. His warm personality and genuine interest in others made people feel like they had known him forever.

John's faith was the foundation of his life. He was firmly rooted in his relationship with God and sought to treat others with kindness, compassion, and grace. His family finds comfort knowing that his faith carried him home.

Although Texas would always be part of who he was, the mountains held a special place in John's heart. Few places inspired greater awe than the Teton Mountains, which he saw as a breathtaking reminder of the beauty of God's creation. It is fitting that his family will honor his wishes by spreading his ashes there, allowing him to rest forever in one of the places he admired most.

More than anything, John treasured his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, JoLynn Broome Meadows; his children, Brittany Baros and her husband, Dylan Baros, Haley Novak and her husband, Evan Novak, and Luke Meadows; his stepchildren, John Blythe and his wife, Lauren, and Sarah Scelsi and her husband, Drew; his cherished grandchildren, Blake Baros, Jaxon Baros, Zane Baros, Ava Novak, Elle Novak, Titus Blythe, and Arya Blythe, who brought him immeasurable pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Billen.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Meadows, Sr. and Mary Meadows; and his brother, William "Bill" Meadows.

Though he will be deeply missed, those who knew and loved him find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace with his Lord and Savior.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 8th at The Officers Club in Victoria, Texas from 10am-1pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the V Foundation for Cancer Research in John's memory. Donations may be made at v.org.
