In Loving Memory of Joseph S. Golden
Joseph S (Joe) Golden, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in New York City on December 28, 1932, Joe lived a life rich with purpose, service, and love.
A proud Navy veteran (1951–1956), Joe served as a hospital corpsman and lab technician before pursuing higher education at the University of Chicago and later earning a bachelor’s degree in history and philosophy as well as a master’s degree in history and political science from the University of Nebraska.
Joe dedicated his career to public service, working in health planning and social services across Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. He retired in 1995 as Administrator of the Youth Services Division for Wyoming’s Department of Family Services and later served as Executive Director of the Wyoming Primary Care Association until 1999. His leadership extended to numerous organizations, including the American Public Health Association, the League of Women Voters (serving as President), the Cheyenne Animal Shelter and his beloved Cheyenne Botanic Gardens (serving as Treasurer and later Chairman of the Foundation).
Joe was a lifelong learner with an insatiable curiosity and a passion for mastering new skills. Whenever something sparked his interest—whether it was table tennis, computers, or learning a new language—he approached it with determination and joy. His love of discovery and growth inspired those around him and reflected his belief that life is a journey of continuous learning.
He married Priscilla Lowe on December 28, 1958, and together they built a life rooted in community and service. Joe (aka “Gramps”) is survived by his wife Priscilla; sons David (Connie), Mike (Linda), and Bob (Lisa); grandchildren Christopher (Sydnie), Daniel, Amanda (Andrew), Emma, Taylor, and Jackson; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Barbara Golden.
Joe will be remembered for his dedication to family, his commitment to public welfare, his love of the outdoors and fishing, and his passion for civic engagement.
Funeral service will be held on December 28, 2025, at 11:00am followed by a reception at the Cheyenne Mt. Sinai Synagogue. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens or a charity of your choice.
