Loren Keith Coates passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026 at the age of 89. He was born in Longmont, Colorado, and grew up in Mead, CO, then Denver, Albuquerque, and Pueblo. He joined the Pueblo Police Department in 1960, and attained the rank of Captain in 1974. He was the watch commander in the Patrol Division and was in charge of the Records Division. He retired in 1991, then worked in security for the Colorado Lottery for 5 years. He was an avid tennis player, hiker, reader, researcher, and life-long learner. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He worked hard to provide for his family and will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eli and Ada Coates, and his sister, Joyce (Coates) Chumbley. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Roberta (Bobbi) Gard, his daughters Lori Nesslage (Douglas), Debbie Bain (Justin), Jennifer Palacios (Josue) son Lee Coates (Jeannie), his grandchildren Mark (Melissa) Nesslage, Sam Kim, Abby Kim, and Micah Kim, Tanner Palacios, Dylan Palacios, Jost Palacios, Brittany Blauvelt, Chase Martin, Lexie Picket and his niece Elaine Flood (Danny) and nephew Steven Willis (Laurie).
