Adolphson, 94, of Cheyenne passed away at her home northwest of Cheyenne on January 10, 2010. She was born on July 5, 1915 to William J. and Adella (Snyder) Bell in Cheyenne. Mrs. Adolphson was an elementary school teacher for Laramie County District #2, teaching rural schools including Altus and Ingleside in Horse Creek, WY. She met Cecil C. Preston while he was employed with Great Western Sugar Company at Horse Creek. They were married on May 24, 1935. Their only child Ronald J. Preston was born August 1936. Lucille taught 1st and 3rd grades in the two room school at Horse Creek. She would teach during the school year and commute to University of Wyoming to further her degrees during the summer months. When Great Western closed the mine at Horse Creek in 1978, Lucille taught at the Whitaker Ranch until those children were transported to Cheyenne schools. She and Cecil lived on her parents homestead at this time. She commuted to Cheyenne and taught at Deming until her retirement in 1980. She and Cecil were very active in the Little Bear Community and were members of the Little Bear Grange. They also raised their niece Marilyn Cross. Lucille married Clarence T. Adolphson on July 15, 1982, and they made their home on the Adolphson homestead. They continued to raise cattle and enjoyed their spiritual life together as members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The blessings in her life expanded through nieces, Carolyn Adolphson and Rebecca Adolphson. She delighted in the Swedish traditions. Lucille was preceded in death by her two husbands, Cecil C. Preston on September 25, 1980, and Clarence T. Adolphson on May 8, 2000; two brothers, Alton Bell and William J. Bell; and two sisters, Ethel Johns and Evelyn Cross. She is survived by her son, Ronald Preston and wife, Joyce, of Cheyenne; three grandchildren, Debra Andersen and husband, Clay Sullivan, of Cheyenne, Dedra Myers and husband, Douglas, of Alberta, Canada, and Della Preston and husband, Randy Lenderman, of Cheyenne; five great-grandchildren, Chase Andersen and wife, Sarah, Jordyn Andersen, Brittany Myers, Kaylee Myers and Braden Myers; and numerous special nieces and nephews including Marilyn Cross.
