Lucy Highsmith's Obituary

Lucy Highsmith, a beloved companion and cherished member of the family, quietly left this world on February 1, 2022, at the wonderful age of 22. Born in Hidden Valley, Fremont County, Wyoming, Lucy brought an abundance of joy and distinctive character to the lives she touched, particularly that of her devoted owner, Kathy.

From the very beginning, Lucy's personality shone through in both subtlety and strength. Though she was quiet and calm, her shyness belied a fierce loyalty to her mom, Kathy. It was clear from the outset that Lucy had chosen her human; she was undoubtedly Kathy's cat and only Kathy's. Gifted to Kathy by her daughter, Heather—who has also passed away—Lucy came into Kathy's life under a veil of uncertainty. Originally named Lucifer for her black fur and unknown gender, the name was lovingly changed to Lucy when it became apparent she was female.

Lucy’s life was filled with unique moments that now remain as treasured memories. A notable adventure occurred when Kathy and Joe moved to Shoshoni in August of 2009; never having been in a car before, Lucy made her opinions known by climbing onto the dashboard and vocally expressing her distress throughout the entire trip. Those who knew her could easily imagine her fiery spirit as she acted like the queen of her domain upon moving to a new home.

Her hobbies reflected a charming and playful nature. She found solace hiding among the quilting fabrics in the sewing room, creating a sanctuary of warmth and comfort. In addition, Lucy had a fondness for popcorn and broccoli—a nutritional palate that made her unique among her feline peers. Over the years, she flourished from her wild and feral beginnings into a loving house cat, all while maintaining her desire for closeness with Kathy, often seeking the warmth of her lap.

Lucy's legacy also includes a testament to her role as a mother. She had seven litters of kittens before being spayed, though tragically, none of them survived. The bonds she formed extended beyond just her role as a cat; she nurtured connection in myriad forms.

Though she departed this life, her spirit lives on in the heart of her adopted brother Shadow. He too, a black kitty, displayed profound affection for Lucy and has searched for her in the days following her passing. Their bond, though now interrupted, is a testament to the deep connections that exist between our beloved pets.

Lucy Highsmith will be remembered not just for her quiet demeanor but for the unwavering love she provided to those around her. As we reflect on her life, we hold close the memories of her shy presence, fierce loyalty, and quirky ways, forever grateful for the time that we shared with such a remarkable soul.

She was cremated by Heavenly Pets in Cheyenne Wyoming and returned to her home in Shoshoni with her mom Kathy.
