Marvin Richard Mason, 94, always known as “Dick” Mason of Cheyenne, Wyoming passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026 at the Davis Hospice Center after an unexpected and short diagnosis of cancer.

Dick was born on January 10, 1932 in Sheridan, Wyoming. He was adopted a few days later by Biff and Laura Mason of Cheyenne where he grew up. Dick graduated from Platte Valley Academy in Shelton, Nebraska. While completing some of his years of college, Uncle Sam called him into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After basic training in California, he was assigned to the dental service in Heidelberg, Germany as a dental assistant. Dick always loved celebrating Veterans Day, which was originally known as Armistice Day, the day he was honorably discharged.

Dick was privileged to work as a civilian employee at FE Warren AFB on the Atlas D & E Missile projects, then transferred to Davis-Montham AFB where he worked on the Titan II Missile project, then transferred to Whiteman AFB where he worked on the Minute Man I & II projects, and finally Larson AFB where he worked on the Atlas E and Titan I projects. Dick then returned to Cheyenne to work for the State of Wyoming so his family could be included in his daughter Kimber’s life and care. He ended his work career with the City of Cheyenne in 2020 during Covid.

Dick married Meridee in 1971, and they would have celebrated 55 years of marriage on September 2. Their daughter Kimber and son-in-law Jim Good live in Louisville, Colorado, grand children Aren and Richie live in Westminster, Colorado, Matt and Nichole live in Broomfield, Colorado, Ryan and Jessica live in Frederick, Colorado and Allie also lives in Louisville, Colorado. Daughter of love Kate and husband Ken Farrow live in Charlottesville, Virginia, granddaughter of love Maddie and husband Ryan Haakenson live in Scottsville, Virginia, and granddaughter of love Lanie is finishing her PA studies and will soon join her family in Virginia. Dick was proceeded in death by his parents Biff and Laura Mason.

Dick designed and completed several building projects on their home, transforming it from a one car bi-level to a quad level with a separate hot tub room and a seven stall garage. Meridee says it was a garage with a house attached! Dick and Meridee enjoyed putting on the Griswold’s Christmas House on Storey for many years sharing their extensive collection of animated Christmas figures with the city where the Christmas Trolley stopped twice nightly. Riders got off came in to enjoy a cup of hot cider and a candy cane. (Show Video).

Dick enjoyed singing with the Wyomingaire’s barber-shoppers for several years where he took on the position of president for a couple of years. Dick and Meridee enjoyed their travels with the Colorado Thunderbird Club in their 1963 T-Bird Convertible, and their 2004 retro thunderbird. Dick was an avid water skier. He and his family enjoyed many years of skiing reservoirs in Wyoming, Lake Havasu, and Acapulco where they participated in pyramids and doubles, trick skiing, and the slalom course he set up at Guernsey each year for all to use. Dick and Kimber enjoyed riding many rollercoasters every chance they got a little more than Meridee did, but she was a good sport and usually participated. Cedar Point was one of Dick’s favorites with 18 roller coasters. Dick loved military holidays and the American Flag and he displayed various flags throughout the year every chance he got. You seldom saw Dick without one of his Korean War caps, and his Honor Flight jacket which was presented to him when his family took him to Washington DC on his special honor flight tour. Dick loved his time with the “Cheyenne Thespian Liar’s Monday Morning coffee group” and was blessed with the friendships of many of the members.
