Mary Meyer

Mary Orr Meyer, 83, of Cheyenne died October 29th, 2025 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. Born November 30, 1941 to Phil “P.J.” and Marianne Orr in Sheridan where she grew up and graduated from Sheridan High School. Mary was Miss Wyoming 1961, and was named Miss Congeniality in the Miss America Program. She attended the University of Wyoming and earned her bachelor's and master’s degrees in Speech, Theater, and Communications.
While in college she met her future husband, Joseph “Joe” Meyer, a Casper native. They were married on September 3, 1966 in Sheridan. Her varied career, primarily in marketing, public relations, and fund raising, included work in various non-profits for about 45 years, with stints at Cheyenne Medical Center and the University of Wyoming. Mary retired in 2011 after serving as the Laramie County Library Foundation Executive Director for seven years. Additionally, Mary and Joe were very active supporters of their local and state community; Mary having served on a number of Boards over many decades. Her greatest joy was always her family.
She is survived by her sons, Vince and Warren (Cory), grandsons Ethan and Devin Meyer, and her little K9 ray of sunshine Button, all of Cheyenne. Mary’s amazing creativity was evident not only in her work but also in her many hobbies. She loved to take ideas and concepts from the drawing board and turn them into realities. She and Joe enjoyed traveling with family and friends to places all around the world.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother Jim.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wyoming Hunger Initiative, Cheyenne Animal Shelter, Laramie County Library Foundation, or to the Joe and Mary Meyer Endowment to Support Student Internships in Public Service, in care of the UW Foundation at 222 South 22nd, Laramie, WY, 82070.
A Memorial Service followed by a reception and celebration of life will be November 21st at 1:00 p.m. at a location that will be provided at a later date.
