Norma Jean Calhoun

Norma Jean Calhoun passed away at her home in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on June 18, 2026.

Norma was born on August 8, 1930, in Kellerton, Iowa, to Daniel D. Dorn and Mildred F. Clark Dorn. She grew up with two older brothers and one younger brother. After attending the University of Iowa for three years, she graduated from the Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1953.

Following graduation, Norma and her three classmates moved to Greeley, Colorado, where they began their nursing careers. While working at the hospital, she met James T. Calhoun, and the couple married on November 14, 1954.

Norma and Jim settled in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where they built a loving home and raised their four daughters: Carol Farthing, Sarah Calhoun, Janet Calhoun, and Sally Watson. Cheyenne remained Norma’s home for most of her adult life.

A dedicated registered nurse, Norma worked at hospitals in both Cheyenne and Greeley, as well as for several physicians and nursing homes throughout her career. She was also an active member of First United Methodist Church, where she served on numerous women’s committees and ministries. Her commitment to helping others extended beyond her profession through her volunteer work at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.

Norma’s greatest passion was quilting and sewing. Through the Project Linus program, she lovingly created 51 quilts to provide comfort and warmth to children in need. Her generosity continued through the creation of more than 1,500 pillows, which were donated to the orthopedic and physical therapy departments at the hospital.

Norma is survived by her daughters: Carol Farthing (Charlie) of Iron Mountain, Wyoming; Sarah Calhoun (Dick Gley) of Apache Junction, Arizona; Janet Calhoun of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Sally Watson (Delwin) of Lingle, Wyoming, and her brother David Dorn (Sophie) of Burlington, Iowa. She is also survived by nine cherished grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Daniel and Eugene.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, June 29, 2026, at 10:30am at the First United Methodist Church, 108 East 18th Street, Cheyenne, Wyoming.
