Pauline Sun Yung Smith, a spirited and vibrant individual, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 14, 2025, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Born on July 7, 1938, in Hawaii, she lived a life characterized by her feisty spirit, generosity, and warmth towards everyone she encountered.
Pauline had a diverse and fulfilling career, serving actively in the U.S. Navy for four years before continuing her commitment to public service in the Wyoming Air National Guard/Air Force. Her professional journey was enriched by her roles in the dental field as a Dental Assistant, along with part-time positions at Sears, Joslins, Kmart, McDonald's, and Sam's Club. She was known not only for her hard work but also for her unwavering honesty and straightforwardness in all her endeavors.
Beyond her professional commitments, Pauline enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought her joy and fulfillment. She had a passion for ceramics, loved playing bingo, and found pleasure in watching Korean dramas and Turkish movies. Pauline also had a unique fondness for pull tab pickles, showcasing her lively personality and zest for life.
Pauline’s legacy will be cherished by her loving husband, Raymond Smith; her daughter, Kim (David) Vanderveen; her sons, Scott (Stella) Smith, and Lance (Sibel) Smith; along with her seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.
Pauline is predeceased by her parents, Chai Bong Kim and Bok Soon Kim, as well as by her siblings: Bomani "BJ" (Misao) Kim, John (Juliana) Kim, Harriet (Shoichi) Kawate, Sonia Anna Kim, Rebecca O Kim, and Mary Tomlinson.
Her spirit, liveliness, and dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed and eternally remembered.
