Philip B.
Kester
January 11, 1963 – May 28, 2026
Philip B. Kester, affectionately known as "Phil" and fondly remembered by many as "Happy" or "Hap," passed away on May 28, 2026, at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Philip was born on January 11, 1963, in Mattoon, Illinois.
Philip was the only child of James D. Kester, now deceased, and his mother, Pattie Kester, who survives him. Growing up in Mattoon, Philip attended school there until his family relocated to Kouts, Indiana, where he completed his high school education. Even from a young age, Philip was known for the ever-present smile he carried.
Philip dedicated much of his working life to the restaurant industry and outdoor labor roles, experiences that showcased his hardworking nature and connection to the outdoors. He carried this love for the outdoors into his personal time, harboring a passion for motorcycle riding and fishing — activities he cherished deeply. An avid companion on all his ventures was his beloved dog, J.D., who was never far from his side.
Philip is survived by his loving mother, Pattie Kester of Arcola, IL; his sons Christian Kester of Humboldt, IL, and Wraith Kester, wife Monica, and grandsons Ezekial and Dean, of Arcola, IL who brought joy to him in his later years. Philip is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Philip was deeply loved and will be remembered for his cheerful spirit and his love of nature. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
