Raymond Ralph Baxter Jr., affectionately known as "Ray," passed away on May 26, 2026, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Born on March 24, 1940, in Alamosa, Colorado, Ray lived a life marked by kindness, dedication, and a spirit of adventure.

Ray's career was rooted in his work as a locative engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad, where he served for 47 years with commitment and pride. Beyond his professional achievements, he was treasured for his warm personality. Those who knew him recall him as one of the kindest people they would ever meet, someone who always offered thoughtful advice, even when it was not easy to hear.

A lover of games, Ray enjoyed playing all kinds of cards with anyone willing to be his opponent, never hiding his playful competitive spirit. His passion extended to coaching baseball for many years in Rawlins, Wyoming, where he imparted not only skills but also valuable life lessons to countless young players.

Memories of Ray often highlight the countless backpacking trips he took with family and friends in the wind rivers. Journeys that remain cherished and vivid in the hearts of those who accompanied him. These adventures reflected his love of the outdoors and his generous nature in sharing such experiences.

Ray is survived by his loving family, including two sisters: Beverly (BJ) Meisner of Cedar Springs, Michigan, and Cheryle Nix of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was a proud father to three daughters  Shauna (Bill) Walton, Laura Baxter, Tracey (Rich) Merrill, and one son Scott Baxter. His legacy continues through 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, each holding a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Baxter; his mother, Virginia Seyfried; his father, Travis Seyfried; and his father, Raymond Baxter Sr., two great granddaughters Ayria Monson and Jazmine Stowe.

A memorial service in honor of Ray will be held on July 16, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home located at 2222 Russell Avenue, Cheyenne, WY 82001. This gathering will provide an opportunity for family and friends to celebrate his life and to remember the profound impact he made on all who knew him.

Raymond Ralph Baxter Jr.'s life was one of heartfelt generosity, enduring love, and meaningful contributions. He leaves behind a legacy that will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
