Rex Allen Stout, 87, was called to his Heavenly home on August 8, 2026.

He was born to Minard and Ruth Stout on April 20, 1939 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. His early years were filled with outdoor activities including skiing and riding motorcycles during his junior high and high school years in Reno, Nevada. Rex participated in the Junior Olympics ski team, and both skiing and motorcycling were life-long passions.

He graduated from Reno High School in 1957 and attended the University of Minnesota studying pre-med and graduating in 1961. While there, Rex met the love of his life, Evelyn Joan Bender, and they were married June 23, 1962, in Bemidji, Minnesota. They moved to Florida where he attended medical school at the University of Miami. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1964 and served a summer externship at Jacksonville Naval Air Station. They had their first child, Carolyn, in 1965. After graduating from medical school, the family moved to Jacksonville where Rex completed his medical internship. Rex elected to enter a residency program in anesthesiology following his internship. The family then moved to quarters at what was then St. Albans Naval Hospital on Long Island, New York for two years. Rex was accepted into an optional third year of specialized anesthesia residency at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, California where their second child, Marc, was born in 1968. Rex was next deployed to Vietnam in the fall of 1969 where he was stationed at Naval Air Station Hospital in Da Nang, Vietnam until it closed in May. He was then “loaned” to the United States Army for his final months in country at the 95th Army Evacuation Hospital. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam and completed his final three years of military service at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, California. The family moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming in September 1973 and Rex entered private practice at DePaul and Memorial Hospitals for many years. During this time, he returned to his love of the outdoors with skiing, riding motorcycles, fishing, camping and hunting. Rex was called into a new teaching career and received a Certificate of Appreciation for his instruction of Biological Sciences at Laramie County Community College from Spring of 1990 to Fall of 1997.

Since moving to Cheyenne, Rex was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and actively served on church council, Stephen Ministries, taught confirmation classes, attended Marriage Encounter sessions with Joan, and was active with the men’s weekly Bible Study group.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents Minard and Ruth Stout, brother Craig Stout, and sister-in-law Marcia Stout. He is survived by his wife, Joan Stout, daughter Carolyn Stout, son Marc Stout, daughter-in-law Brenda Stout, and two grandsons, Cameron Stout and Jake Ramirez.

Services will be held Thursday, August 27 at 10:30am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cheyenne, Wyoming. A private burial will take place at the Cheyenne National Cemetery.
