Richard L. Russell

February 18, 1951 — October 7, 2025

Cheyenne

Richard Lee Russell passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2025 in Cheyenne, WY. Richard was born February 18, 1951, in Sydney, NE to Boyd and Mary Ellen Russell (proceeded in death). Richard grew up with his younger siblings Gene, Kenneth and Lynn on a farm in Pine Bluffs. Richard would often talk of his time on the farm including riding horses, his many pet dogs, and the farming life. While on the farm Richard started his lifelong love of flying that lasted up to his last flight weeks before his passing.

Richard was a man of many interests and lived a life full of adventures. His love of the road and traveling started early at 12 years old when he learned to ride motorcycles. Richard would travel all over the country on his bike with Kenny and Rodger Lang into his 40’s when his need to hit the road led him to purchase his first BMW convertible. Richard’s wanderlust was evident as he traveled often with the love of his life, Lucy.

Richard was active in many volunteer organizations including 30 years as a Boy Scout leader where he was awarded the Silver Beaver. Richard was an active member of Kiwanis as a Bonham Fellow, prior Club Board Member, current member of the Foundation Board and volunteered yearly at the pancake breakfast, as well as serving as a JustServe coordinator. Richard was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latters Day Saints. He held countless positions in his church with his latest serving in the Baptismal Faunt at the Ft. Collins Temple.

Richard was survived by his wife of 30 years, Lucy Russell. His siblings, Boyd (Gene) and Kenneth Russell, Lynn Schneider and their spouses. His children, Mary Catherine Russell, Christopher Russell, Rachael Eastman, Josh Eastman, Heather Dodson, Andrea Jennings, and their spouses. Richard was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 5 nieces, 6 nephews, 5 great nieces, and 12 great nephews. He was proceeded in death by a nephew.

Richard was loved by his family and friends and will be missed, but one thing we all know for certain was just how much Richard loved us. He would selflessly attend all his grandchildren's events, never missing any of Lucy’s many concerts and musical events, as well as helping make household repairs whenever asked and volunteering his time, and love to his wife, family and friends completely.

In lieu of flowers, Richard would have preferred a donation to the Kiwanis Foundation. Cheyennekiwanisfoundation@gmail.com or mail donations to Kiwanis at PO Box 1513 Cheyenne, WY 82003.
