Robert T. McEwin passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025 after a long battle with multiple health issues. Robert was born on November 15, 1946 in Pasedena, Texas and was the youngest son of June Chafee (later Borzekofski) and Eugene (Mac) McEwin. His father was a pipefitter, so Robert grew up traveling throughout the U.S. with his mother, father and older brother Michael. His mother, who was extremely well read, took her sons often to visit local history museums and historic sites. Because of this upbringing, both Robert and Michael had a great love of learning, reading and history. The family eventually settled down in Cheyenne, Wyoming and later Beatrice, Nebraska. In 1972 he married Florence R. Alfano in Boston, Massachusetts. Where they lived for a year before returning to Wyoming. Together they have one daughter, Mara McEwin. As an adult, Robert became a Union Steamfitter for Local 192, traveling throughout Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Colorado and the Dakotas. He eventually received his teaching certificate at University of Wyoming, primarily teaching history, and subbed in the Wyoming and Montana High Schools. In his earlier years, he performed in local community plays in both Billings, Montana and Cheyenne, Wyoming. When he wasn’t steam fitting, or teaching, he also loved waiting tables. He often referred to himself as the Jack of All trades. He was a devoted father, and despite divorcing Florence when Mara was very young, he made every effort to watch Mara in all of her creative endeavors growing up, including local plays, speech meets and dance recitals. Always a proficient storyteller, Robert was known for his long meandering stories, raucous joke telling, love of history, politics and his constant generosity to those he loved. A lover of nature, particularly the raw beauty of the outdoors, Robert knew every creek, side road, and camping spot in Wyoming. Later in life, he delighted his granddaughter by showing her beaver dams, running rivers, and how to touch the clouds at the elevation peak. In recent years, Robert had many complications with his health. Despite this, he kept his mind sharp listening to University Lectures, history podcasts and stories about the West. Robert is survived by his daughter Mara McEwin, son in law Brent Hankins, granddaughter Orelia Hankins, and sister in law, Jeannie McEwin. A small family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) or Treehouse Shakers in NYC
