It is with deep respect and solemn reflection that we announce the passing of Dr. Robert X. Born on October 22, 1946, in Manhattan, New York, Robert lived a life marked by extraordinary service, dedication, and quiet strength.
Bob was a man of remarkable intellect and commitment. He earned a Doctorate Degree and distinguished himself as a Doctor of Economics and Mathematics, making significant contributions in the field of Finance. Bob attributed much of his success to the unwavering support given to him by his dear friend Harley. His academic achievements were matched by an extraordinary military career that showcased his courage and leadership. Trained extensively in tactical and special operations, including Parachute Training School, Ranger School, Jungle Operations Training Center, Psychological Operations and Intelligence, and the Special Warfare Center, he served with distinction.
His military service was exemplary. He held critical leadership roles such as Detachment and Mobile Strike Force Company Commander and Commander of the 22nd Mobile Strike Force Company in Special Forces. Bob led covert operations throughout multiple command and control areas, served with the combined intelligence command in Vietnam, commanded province reconnaissance units, and worked as a Special Operations Liaison within the CIA combined studies group. Additionally, he completed two more tours in Southeast Asia. His valor and sacrifice were recognized with numerous combat decorations, including the Master Parachutist Wings with Combat Jump Star, Vietnam Service Medal, six Purple Hearts, Bronze Star, Silver Star, and the esteemed Army Distinguished Service Cross. He honorably separated from the Army on July 7, 1970, holding the rank of Captain.
Beyond his military and academic accomplishments, Bob carried the weight of service to his nation in another distinguished role—as a member of the Secret Service for President Ronald Reagan. This position underscored his unwavering dedication to protecting and serving at the highest levels of government.
Bob’s desire to remain physically fit carried beyond his years of public service. He was deeply involved with the power lifting community for many years.
Dr. Robert X. Seligman is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly P. Seligman, who shared countless years of companionship and support with him. He is preceded in death by his parents.
