Rosemary Fleming Adamson Todd passed away May 26, 2025
She was born in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, the daughter of Byron Franklin Fleming and Jean McCartney Fleming on June 2, 1934. She never considered herself anything other than a “Kentuckian.” Her family on both sides had been in northern KY for about 200 years. And yet she had lived so many places and loved Wyoming.
Rosemary went to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 1956. There she met Godfrey Douglas Adamson and they were married in June of 1956. While at Vanderbilt, Rosemary was a member of the Residence Hall Counsel and on the Honor Counsel. She and Doug remained in Nashville while he completed his Medical Degree at Vanderbilt University. Their first daughter was born while in Nashville.
Leaving Nashville following Dr. Adamson’s graduation, they joined the US Air Force and started their life together and saw the world. First stop was Denver, CO for an internship at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital. Then back south to Montgomery, AL for a Residency program and welcomed a second daughter. Following this, a tour in Del Rio. TX where the U2 airplane became famous after being shot down over Russia. On this tour, their third daughter was born. The family moved with the U2 squadron to Geelong, Australia for a 3 year tour. From there they went to Cambridge, MA, back to San Antonio, TX, then to Flemingsburg, KY while Dr. Adamson went to Vietnam. Upon his return they spent 3 years in Wiesbaden, Germany, then back to Montgomery, AL, and finally Cheyenne, WY. Rosemary found that she loved traveling, but wanted their three daughters to have “roots”. They purchased a cottage on a Lake just outside of her beloved hometown, Flemingsburg. She and the daughters spent many summers there and continue to still today.
Rosemary and Dr. Adamson separated and divorced while they were in Cheyenne. In 1975, she married The Rev. Eugene Todd who was then Rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Cheyenne. They melded their families of three children each, but the real melding came when their 16 grandchildren were born. All of those children adored “Grand-dad” and loved being baptized, married or just having fun with him.
Rosemary and Eugene worked together furthering their visions and finding how much their chosen professions were tied together. Rosemary started her career in Cheyenne at the City County Health Dept. in 1975 as a staff Nurse. In 1980 she became the Nursing Supervisor and then in 1987 she was named the Nursing Manager. She worked with †he County Commissioner’s, the Greenway proponents, and other groups to pass the tax to build a new Health Dept building at 100 Central Ave. and a new County Building on 20th Street. This tax also funded the Greenway Project which Rosemary felt was Public Health for Cheyenne. She also contributed the nursing component to a Federal Grant to provide health care for the homeless while Eugene was working to organize and help the downtown churches to further the COMEA Shelter, which services the homeless.
Rosemary loved playing bridge and was always up for a game anytime or anywhere. She earned the status of a ACBL Life Master in Duplicate Bridge and was on the Unit 413 Board many times in Cheyenne. She loved cooking, entertaining and making new friends. This made her enjoy being the wife of the Rector and making newcomers feel at home in the church.
After Father Todd’s retirement from St. Mark’s in 1992, he spent time in churches in Colorado while serving as interim priest. Rosemary retired in 1997 to join him. They were in Sedalia, Breckenridge, Denver and Aspen. Once Eugene fully retired they settled back into their home in Cheyenne.
In 2023, Rosemary moved to Dayton, Ohio to live with family and to be closer to her Kentucky home. The transition was hard but as she found a new church home, bridge friends, and new neighbors, she was acclimating to her new home.
Rosemary’s ashes will be interred in the columbarium at St. Mark’s Episcopal church and a small amount will be sent to her Flemingsburg, KY home to be buried in the cemetery there.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ingleby, Aurora. CO, Rebecca Sinopoli (Paul), Dayton, OH, and Kimberley Neville (Tracy), Nashville, TN, and her step children Lori Todd, Queens, NY, Barry Todd, Cheyenne, WY and Sheridan Todd (Pete), Buffalo, WY. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, her sister Nanette Fleming McChord (Edward), Lexington, KY and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Dr. Adamson, The Rev. Eugene Todd, and grandson Riley Voycheske in 1994, and Beebe and Missy P, her beloved pets. Mister, her dog, has been lovingly adopted by her sister, Nanette and Ed.
