Samuel Edwards

August 10, 1945 — August 7, 2025

Cheyenne

Samuel (Ed, Sonny) Edwards, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, surrounded by those he loved.

Born on August 10, 1945, in Birmingham, Alabama, he was the beloved son of Jessie M. Hall and Samuel Edwards. Samuel was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lawrence Streeter; and his sisters, Frankie Edwards and Jhonie Jo Hall.

A proud graduate of Wenonah High School, Class of 1965, Samuel entered the United States Air Force shortly after graduation. He served his country with honor and distinction, completing two tours in the Vietnam War. After twenty years of meritorious service, he retired as a decorated veteran.

Never one to sit still, he pursued his love of learning by earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wyoming’s College of Education in 1997. For the next 16 years, he shaped young minds as a devoted classroom teacher in the Laramie County School District #1 before retiring for a second time.

Samuel was a man of many passions. He treasured time with his grandchildren—attending dance recitals, cheering from the sidelines at sporting events, celebrating school milestones—and took great pride in watching them grow into young adults. He was an avid bowler and a Master Mason of the Prince Hall Masons. He participated in the Retired Wyoming Education Association and never missed an opportunity to root for his beloved L.A. Dodgers and L.A. Lakers. He relished the camaraderie and friendly rivalry of fantasy football and cultivated a thriving garden bursting with fruits, vegetables, and vibrant flowers.

He had an unquenchable curiosity—especially for math, history, politics, geography, and trivia. He and his wife shared a love for travel and spent many happy days on cruise adventures, always eager to explore new places and meet new friends.

Samuel is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Gloria; his children, Paul Brown, Paula Brown (Alan), Jessica Edwards (Louis); and his cherished grandchildren, Kaleb and Zoey Brown. His memory will be carried forward by a large and loving circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends whose lives he touched in countless ways.

Samuel leaves behind a legacy of service, wisdom, laughter, and unconditional love. He will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the lives he lifted.

In keeping with his wishes, he has been cremated, and no formal funeral services will be held. His family invites those who knew him to honor his memory in their own way—by planting something, telling a good story, or helping someone in need.
