Steven M. Weller, affectionately known as Steve, passed away on March 30, 2026, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, at Granite Rehabilitation, with his beloved wife Donna by his side. Born on March 28, 1947, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Steve’s life was a testament to dedication, lifelong learning, and the love he held for his family and community.
From an early age, Steve’s thirst for knowledge was unmistakable. At just 11 years old, he devoured the entire World Encyclopedia Set, a reflection of the curiosity and passion for education that he would carry throughout his entire life. He earned his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Wyoming and sought opportunities to expand his skills continually, carrying a crossword puzzle book with him well into his later years as a symbol of his enduring desire to learn.
Steve’s journey through life included a variety of jobs that shaped his character and work ethic. His early years saw him working as a ranch hand, service station attendant, road construction worker, fence builder, building mover, home construction concrete finisher, lumber yard assistant, and beekeeper. Each role added layers to his rich experience and prepared him for the profound impact he would have as an educator.
In 1972, Steve began a remarkable teaching career with the Laramie County School District #2 at Pine Bluffs. Over the course of 30 years, until his retirement in May 2002, he taught a wide range of subjects including Science, Math, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Geology, and Principles of Technology. His commitment to education extended beyond the Jr. High and High school classroom; he served as an outreach teacher for Laramie County Community College and taught extension classes for the University of Wyoming, sharing his knowledge with countless students across Laramie County. His dedication did not go unnoticed, as his superiors honored him with the title of “Master Teacher,” highlighting his ability to instill both knowledge and responsibility in his students while making learning an enjoyable experience.
Beyond academics, Steve’s passions were diverse. He held a deep love for music and was known to have played in several rock bands during his younger days, a testament to his vibrant spirit and joy for life. His service to his country was marked by his time in the Wyoming National Guard, where he further demonstrated duty and commitment.
Steve is survived by his cherished wife Donna; his loving daughter Meri Becker and her husband Chris of California; son Jeff Weller and his wife Shannon of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming; and his treasured grandchildren Jason, Jessica, Shelby, Lance, Whitney, and Miles. His family circle also includes his sister Lanna Williams and her husband Don of Florida, sister Linda Miller of Texas, nephew Mike Williams and his wife Chrissy of Missouri, and niece Dawn Hunt and her husband Brady of Texas. Close family and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts include Sherri Carlson and her husband Darwin of Scottsbluff, along with their daughters Kirstyn and Kylie, as well as Vince Aulick and his wife Robin, Shane Aulick and his wife Annette, Ginger Aulick, and Jody Chicoine with her husband John, together with their children. He is also remembered by his former wife Emy of California.
