Thomas G. Kelly passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on September 6, 2025, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, at the age of 72. Born on November 28, 1952, in Fremont, Nebraska, Tom was known for his warm and outgoing spirit, love for his family and friends, and commitment to his profession.
A graduate of Bergan Catholic High School in Fremont, Tom furthered his education at Midland University, where he graduated in 1976, before earning his law degree from Creighton University in 1979. He practiced law for 46 years, including as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer during his combined 20 years of service with the Army Reserve in Nebraska and the Army National Guard in Wyoming, from which he retired as a Major.
Tom was married to Karen Kelly for 33 years and together they raised three children. He was a proud father, father-in-law and grandfather, and reveled in watching his family pursue and excel in their passions and strengths.
Tom's love for music was apparent having played in several bands throughout his life, beginning in high school. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling, and giving back to the community. He was a volunteer for Cheyenne Frontier Days for over 30 years, most recently serving on the Board of Directors for both Cheyenne Frontier Days and the Cheyenne Frontier Days Foundation.
He is survived by his son, Robert "Patrick" Kelly; daughters, Shannon (Jeff) Fallon and Erin (Ben) Vavra; and two grandchildren, Connor and Quinn Fallon. Tom is also survived by his sisters, Colleen (Bob) Paden and Kristine (Doug) Foulk; brother, John Kelly; sister-in-law, Monica Kelly; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who held him dear. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Robert "Bob" and Rita Kelly, Karen Kelly, brothers, Richard "Patrick" and Robert "Michael" Kelly, and sister-in-law, Valerie Kelly.
Funeral services will be held on September 24, at 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Cheyenne, WY, followed by a reception. A celebration of life will be held in Nebraska, with more details to come. The family kindly asks that memorials be directed to the Cheyenne Frontier Days Foundation.
