Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Bob Garrard officiating and the Reverend Robert Walkley assisting.Interment of the urn immediately following at Lakeview Cemetery. Walter J. Wenzel, 62, passed away July 5, 2010 in Springfield, Missouri. He was born August 8, 1947 in Kassel, Germany, the son of Hans and Waltraud Wenzel. He immigrated with his family in 1953 from Kassel, Germany to the United States, becoming a U.S. citizen in 1962. Walter served in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He married Linda Sue Myers on February 19, 1972 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Walter was a Budget Analyst and retired from The Department of Defense. He was a member of The American Legion Post #6, Cheyenne Airport Golf Club, VFW, 4-H Leader and also belonged to several Bowling Leagues and was a life long member of DAV. Walter loved working in his yard, playing golf, traveling, taking walks and spending time outdoors. His greatest loves of all were his family and his faithful dog, Dweezil. He was a wonderful husband and father and will be missed dearly by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Linda Sue Myers Wenzel and his sons, David A. Wenzel and Roi G. Williamson. He is also survived by numerous family members in Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Waltraud Wenzel. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, VA Medical & Regional Office Center, 2360 E. Pershing Blvd., Cheyenne, Wyoming 82001.
