In Loving Memory of Warren Gookin Sr.

Warren Gookin Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, in Monmouth, Oregon. He was born March 30, 1933, in Cheridan, Iowa, to Howard and Marie Gookin and was the oldest of their children.

Warren graduated from Cheyenne High School in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict, serving aboard the USS Yorktown. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Cheyenne, where he began a long and respected career as a plumber and pipefitter with Local Union 192, Plumbers and Pipefitters. He was a member for 73 plus years of local 192.

Throughout his career, Warren worked on numerous housing projects and missile sites in the Cheyenne area. He later moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming, where he worked as a pipefitter on power plants, before returning to Cheyenne. For the final ten years of his working career, Warren served as the building maintenance superintendent at Johnson Junior High School in Cheyenne. After retiring, he moved to Dallas, Oregon, where he and Marjorie made their home with their son and daughter-in-law on their farm.

Warren married the love of his life, Marjorie Gookin, on May 15, 1953, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Together they shared more than 73 years of marriage. Warren and Marjorie enjoyed traveling and camping in their motorhome and were active members of the Family Motor Coach Association and the Jackalopes. Their faith was also an important part of their lives. They were active members of First Baptist Church in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and later became members of Evangelical Bible Church in Dallas, Oregon.

Warren is survived by his wife, Marjorie Gookin; his son, Warren Gookin Jr., and daughter-in-law, Barbara Gookin, of Dallas, Oregon; and his grandchildren, Dennis Gookin Ruppert and his wife, Hannah, and their children, Abigail, Hudson, and Natalie of Loveland Colorado, Casey Gookin Ruppert and his wife, Janae, and their children, Cameron, Ethan,Clay, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Sonia Estorga and her son, Marcus Estorga, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Anthony Estorga II and his children, Anthony Estorga III, Jayden Estorga, and Janessa Estorga.

Warren is also survived by his extended family of Warren Jr. and Barb’s 26 children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in Oregon.

Warren was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Gookin (1956–2012), and by his siblings Alberta Gookin and Vern Gookin. He is survived by his siblings Richard Gookin of Greeley, Colorado; Pauline Gookin Cherryhomes of Marion, Iowa; and Nolan Gookin of Etowah, North Carolina.

Warren will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his service to his country, his strong work ethic, his faith, and the many years of love and companionship he shared with

Marjorie. He leaves behind a family who will forever cherish the memories of the life they shared with him.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on August 28, 2026, at Beth El Cemetery in Cheyenne, Wyoming. A celebration of Warren’s life will follow from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Schrader’s Funeral Home in Cheyenne.
