William Samuel Longacre

William S. Longacre, 73, passed away at his daughter’s home in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on December 26, 2025. He was born on March 2, 1952, in Ft. Morgan, Colorado, six minutes after his twin brother, to Walter and Lillian (Wacker) Longacre. He grew up on a farm north of Ft. Morgan and graduated from Ft. Morgan High School in 1971.

William married Donna Mavis on June 24, 1972. They welcomed a son, William Daniel, in November 1972; a second son, Kelly Lee, in October 1973; and a daughter, Katie Lorraine, in June 1976. They divorced in 1993 but reunited in 2002. Together, they worked side by side, shared laughter and tears, and lived life as it came. Their journey was both well-traveled and less traveled—an incredible ride for both.

His higher education came through the school of life, with lessons learned from great successes and hard knocks. He valued both classrooms and boots-on-the-ground experience and never flaunted his achievements or complained about his challenges.

He was “the dad” to his kids—complete with dad jokes and silliness to the point of being a dork. He loved his children deeply and taught them to play and work hard by showing them the ropes and kicking their butts when needed. He passed on countless life skills, from changing a tire to replacing a light bulb. He went to work for them every day and was proud of the people they had become.

William was an adoring grandpa to Alissa, Luke, Liam, Landon, Ellianna, August, and Kinley. He loved joking with his grandkids, celebrating their successes, and guided them through mistakes. He was also a loving great grandpa to baby Aurora.

He was a devoted brother, uncle, and great friend to many. William was a hardworking man who never backed away from a difficult task. He farmed, worked in a grocery store, then at a beef plant, and eventually settled into truck driving in the oil field. He mastered operating “the gin truck,” knowing exactly what to do—and what not to do—with those poles. He could haul any load, no matter what it was, to wherever it needed to go. He worked in the oil field for over forty years, back when people appreciated oil to heat their homes and fuel their cars.

Later, he spent time caring for animals on “the little farm,” raising pigs, cows, goats, chickens, and even a horse or two. He helped high school students apply classroom lessons to real-life experiences in the barn, pen, or pasture. There was not an animal he couldn’t socialize with—even the most stubborn milk cow or goat. Eventually, he turned to growing flowers, and they were just gorgeous.

William is survived by Donna Longacre, his sons Kelly and William D. (Jennifer) Longacre, his daughter Katie Capron (John), seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sisters Carol Conrad (Glen) and Betty Longacre, brothers Wally (Charlene), John, and Donald Longacre, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lillian Longacre, and his daughter-in-law, Linda Longacre (Kelly).

Final arrangements are with Schrader, Aragon & Jacoby Funeral Home, 2222 Russell Street, Cheyenne, WY, on January 10, 2026. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held at the Truck Stop at Little America in Cheyenne.
